MARIB – SABA
Undersecretary of Marib Governorate for Defense and Security Affairs Major General Nasser Raqib laid the foundation stone Monday for the construction of the Development Residential Village to shelter displaced persons in Al-Mail area north of the governorate’s capital.
The project includes 50 housing units, a water project, a school, a health unit, and a mosque.
It is being implemented by Al-Tawasul Foundation for Human Development, with funding from the Kuwaiti Charity Development Society as part of the campaign “Kuwait Is by Your Side.”
Following the foundation-laying ceremony, Undersecretary Raqib, accompanied by the Deputy Chairman of Al-Tawasul Foundation, Imad Abdulrahim, and the Assistant Director of the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons, Khaled Al-Shajani, reviewed the master plan of the residential city and its service facilities, which are being built on a total area of 15,000 square meters.
Undersecretary Raqib listened to a detailed explanation from the project engineer about each component, which will be implemented over a full year.
He explained that the housing units will serve 50 displaced families, with each unit consisting of two rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a courtyard. The school to be constructed will include six classrooms, administrative offices, a teachers’ lounge, furnishing, and equipment, and is expected to accommodate 270 male and female students.
He noted that the city will also include a health unit to be built on an area of 116 square meters, consisting of an emergency room, a doctor’s room, a pharmacy, a laboratory, and a general practitioner. In addition, a mosque will be constructed on an area of 64 square meters, with a capacity of 180 worshippers.
He added that the residential city project includes an integrated water project to serve the city and its service institutions.
It consists of an artesian well 200 meters deep, an elevated tank with a capacity of 25 cubic meters, an electric pumping system, and two main distribution networks: one from the well to the tank and another from the tank to the beneficiaries.
Major General Raqib praised this vital developmental and humanitarian project, which will alleviate the suffering of displaced persons, commending the humanitarian role of the brotherly State of Kuwait—government and people—and its generous support for their brothers in Yemen in general and Marib in particular.
He also praised the humanitarian partnership between the local authority and Al-Tawasul Foundation, and its interventions in promoting and implementing humanitarian projects characterized by sustainability, contributing to recovery and reconstruction, and responding to the urgent needs of displaced persons and the host community.
