ADEN - SABA
Yemenia Airlines, based in the temporary capital Aden announced Tuesday that the bombardment targeting Sana'a International Airport resulted in the destruction of three of its aircrafts due to the Houthi terrorist militia's use of civilian facilities for military purposes.
The company expressed deep regret in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) for the destruction of its three aircraft (A320-AFA, A320-AFC, and A330-AFE), which had been stationed at Sana'a Airport since being hijacked by the Houthis in July 2024 while performing humanitarian, national and religious duties transporting Yemeni pilgrims from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Sana'a.
Yemenia Airlines emphasized that the destruction of the three aircraft exacerbates the company's challenges as the sole national carrier in Yemen and constitutes a significant and devastating loss.
The aircraft played a crucial role in alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people by providing international transportation between Yemen and other international airports.
The company held the Houthi militia fully responsible for these losses and the destruction of its aircraft, stating that it had repeatedly warned against the continued hijacking and detention of aircraft in Sana'a.
The company had communicated through official channels, requesting the release of the hijacked aircraft and allowing them to depart to either Aden Airport or any other safe international airport to preserve their safety. The airline had also demanded not to be dragged into political and military conflicts, but these demands were met with stubbornness and rejection.
