The Speaker of the House of Representatives Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani discussed with the British Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif on Wednesday bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance and develop them in various fields.
The two parties also discussed developments in the national arena, as well as efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the three references, along with local and regional developments.
The Parliament Speaker reviewed a number of issues related to the general situation in the country and the economic and humanitarian conditions that the Yemeni people are suffering from.
He emphasized that the situation in Yemen is worrying and concerning not only for Yemen but also for its brothers and friends around the world, due to the terrorist acts committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militias, the destructive impacts of which impact the lives of our people.
He affirmed that the experience with the Houthis is painful and that they are an ideological group that does not believe in just peace or partnership, and that these are not among their options.
The Speaker of the Parliament called for the United Nations and the international community to assume their responsibilities in deterring this gang by ending the coup and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
He also condemned the brutal crimes committed by the Israeli entity against citizens in Gaza and Lebanon, addressing the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
He stressed the need for the international community and Britain to exert pressure to stop the Israeli arrogance, which destroys all aspects of life and continues to provoke Arabs and Muslims.
He warned that the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples threatens to widen the conflict and jeopardizes the security and stability of the region and the world, calling on the international community to break its silence and take a moral stance against these atrocities and crimes that disgrace humanity.
For her part, the British ambassador affirmed her country’s continued support for constitutional legitimacy to overcome challenges and work on building and strengthening the economic and political system in Yemen through regional and international partners, reiterating that the security and stability of Yemen and the unity of its territory are of significant interest to the United Kingdom.
The British diplomat condemned the Houthi militias' violations of freedoms and arbitrary arrests against Yemenis, as well as their use of these actions for political purposes.
