UNICEF: 90 percent of Gaza's children lack necessary food for proper growth
[06/06/2024 01:15]
WASHINGTON-SABA
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that "nine out of 10 children in Gaza cannot eat nutrients from enough food groups to ensure their healthy growth and development."

UNICEF in Gaza Strip added in a statement today, Thursday, "Months of hostilities and restrictions on humanitarian aid have led to the collapse of the food and health systems with catastrophic consequences for children and their families".

It noted that five datasets collected between December 2023 and April 2024 found that nine out of 10 children in the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli bombardment since last October, suffer from severe food poverty, meaning they are fed two or fewer food groups a day to survive.

The UNICEF pointed out that 27 percent of children globally suffer from severe food poverty in early childhood, amounting to 181 million children under the age of five.
