BULGARIA: Thousands of Bulgarians, foreigners watch Rose Picking Ritual

Thousands of guests from Bulgaria and abroad including Bulgarian ministers on Sunday members of Parliament, heads of central and local government institutions, and mayors. Foreign diplomats watched a rose picking ritual near Kazanlak on Sunday.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported that the annual ritual was held for the 121st time.

Bulgarian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Deyan Stratev celebrated the event saying "The rose is one of Bulgaria's national symbols, and Bulgarian rose oil is well-known worldwide for its quality", according to BTA.

It is important to note that fields planted with oil-bearing rose measure 5,000 hectares and Bulgaria has 51 rose flower producing and processing businesses.
