Minister of Public Health and Population Qasem Buhaybeh held three separate meetings today in the temporary capital, Aden, with officials and representatives from international organizations and missions for supporting health sector in Yemen.
In his first meeting, Minister Buhaybeh discussed with the Behavioral Change Officer at UNICEF enhancing technical cooperation between the two parties in various sectors.
The meeting focused on the support needs for the National Center for Health and Population Education and Information at the Ministry of Health, and working to support its various activities, including behavioral change.
He emphasized the importance of unifying common visions and working as one team on the same path to provide demand-driven services.
He stressed the need to enhance UNICEF's interventions in health education, including behavioral change and demand creation.
He called for attention to the National Center for Health and Population Education and Information and working to improve its efficiency to perform its work as required, emphasizing the importance of integrated collective planning for community campaigns.
In his second meeting, he was briefed by Nela Mohammed, the Head of the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Dutch mission in Yemen, on the overall interventions and activities of the mission.
During the meeting, a report on the mission's interventions in Taiz and Marib, and the support provided in the areas of maternity, childhood, and primary healthcare services, was reviewed.
The mission expressed its readiness to respond to emergencies and provide medical grants to hospitals such as Sayoun General Hospital in Hadhramaut, Alsadaqah Hospital in Aden, and the Kidney Dialysis Center at the Military Hospital in Aden.
Buhaybeh praised the mission's interventions and stressed the importance of joint work and pushing it towards the desired goals and objectives.
He called on the mission and other organizations to adhere to the standards for importing medicines, ensuring that their shelf life does not expire before two-thirds of the duration, in order to avoid their disposal without benefiting from them.
He also emphasized the need to share reports with the ministry, including data, to identify achieved successes and challenges facing the work and to enhance cooperation for review and evaluation.
In the same context, Miniter of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhaybeh met with a team from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The meeting discussed UNOPS' interventions in the health sector, including the project to establish central vaccine stores in provinces, as well as the technical arrangements for starting the project and setting timetables for implementation.
It also discussed the implementation of vaccine stores projects in several provinces.
Minister Buhaybeh praised UNOPS' support for the health sector and called for investing time in starting the implementation of the central vaccine stores project and addressing all the problems that hinder its implementation.
He highlighted that the project will work to improve performance efficiency and enhance high-quality storage methods for vaccines.
