President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Thursday, with the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Antony Blinken. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, and ways to advance them to broader horizons in various fields.
The meeting also touched on developments in the Yemeni situation, the required support to promote economic and service reforms, and regional and international efforts to revive the peace path in light of the intransigence of the Houthi militia.
In the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the US interventions to support the humanitarian response plan, and the basic life-saving services.
He also praised the role of the United States and its special envoy for renewing the truce and ending the human suffering caused by the Houthi militia, in addition to the estimated American contributions in terms of combating the smuggling of Iranian weapons and narcotics to the Houthi militia and violent groups in the region, and affirming the strategic partnership between the Republic of Yemen and the United States in the field of combating terrorism, in light of the existing collusion between the Houthi militia and the al-Qaeda and ISIS organizations.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed the importance of integrating all international efforts with the Saudi and doubling joint pressures in order to achieve a just peace in accordance with the references agreed upon nationally, regionally and internationally, especially Resolution 2216.
His Excellency the President also mentioned the presidential and governmental initiatives to alleviate human suffering throughout the country, and the required role of the international community to stop the violations of the Houthi militia, including arbitrary measures against the activities of the private sector, and to profit from the war economy without regard for the dire repercussions of those measures.
For his part, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken affirmed the US commitment to support the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and to continue its humanitarian and development interventions at all levels.
As Minister Blinken affirmed, Washington is keen to support the ongoing efforts to launch a comprehensive political process that meets the aspirations of Yemenis to restore state institutions and achieve security, stability and peace
