On the sidelines of the United Nations Water Conference held in New York, the Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, discussed with the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Dr. Rola Dashti, issues of common interest in the field of water and the environment and ways to enhance and develop them.
The two sides discussed ESCWA's activities in the water and environment sectors, and programs to support, build and rehabilitate capacities in the water and sanitation sectors, in addition to institutional support for the water sector.
Al-Sharjabi stressed the importance of joint coordination to determine priorities for interventions in the implementation of infrastructure, water, sanitation and environment projects, stressing the need for a clear and comprehensive strategy to shift from emergency aid to aid in the field of sustainable development.
