Planning minister discusses with IFAD boosting agricultural, fishery cooperation

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wa'id Batheeb discussed Friday with Vice President of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Donald Brown means of boosting and improving cooperation relations in field of developing agricultural and fishery sector and food security.
Batheeb expressed hope of reactivating IFAD's projects and reopening the fund's office in Yemen, confirming that the ministry will provide all facilitations to the office to carry out its activities easily.
The two parties discussed preparations associated with implementing the project of developing rural livelihood project financed by USD 20 million from the fund to be implemented during the forthcoming days in a number of provinces. The project will have great impact on improving agricultural production.
Batheeb pointed out to delayed debts of the fund, hoping significance of finding suitable solution to tackle this problem whether by delaying payment or by partial pardon of these debts as Yemen is experiencing difficult financial conditions.
The fund's role will be central in the forthcoming period under complicating problem of food security and humanitarian situation over the war and repercussions of coronavirus.
For his part, the Vice President of IFAD confirmed commitment of the fund of continuing support to Yemen in these difficult conditions, confirming that the fund will focus its interventions and investment within the new regional strategy which responds to national priorities in agricultural and fishery sector.
