TAIZ - SABA
Government officials have inaugurated the repair of Hayjat al-Abd, a winding and dangerously steep mountain road that serves as the only humanitarian conduit to the Houthi-besieged city of Taiz.
The deputy governor of Taiz and the governor of neighboring Lahj provinces, in Yemen’s south, formally opened the start of the repair of substantial pavement damages the light-use highway has suffered because of heavy trucks using it to transport humanitarian and commercial goods from the interim capital Aden farther in the country’s south.
Delivering remarks in the inauguration, the officials highlighted the importance of the road to lessen the impact of the six year siege imposed by the Houthi militants around Taiz.
