ADEN-SABA
Yemen's Social Affairs Minister said the Houthis controlling the capital Sana'a since the September 2014 coup had set up "all-female brigades known as Al-Zaynabiyat to abduct and torture oppositionist women."

In a statement to Saba on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2019, Ebtihaj al-Kamal called "on the international community and the UN to condemn all forms of violence the women in the Houthi-held areas are subjected to."

She said the theocratic militia "commit grave violations tantamount to war crimes against women."
She said the government is committed to protecting women and has a special national plan for women empowerment prepared with CSOs and donors.
