PM says Yemen faced complex challenges as a result of Houthi coup
[01/07/2019 04:08]

ADEN- SABA
Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik said Yemen has faced complex challenges as a result of the Houthi coup d'état mounted in September 2014.

Chairing a meeting between a high-level World Bank delegation and government officials in Aden on Monday, he said Yemen experienced a collapse of state institutions and of the economy.

"Therefore the government with directions from President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has succeeded in tackling these problems; in curbing the devaluation of the national currency and activating the heath, education, power and telecommunication services" for the public. He also cited the government's resumption of salary payment to 65% of public employees in different parts of the country including in areas under the control of the Houthi militia.

He said the government's accomplishments give positive signals to the international community about the importance of partnership with the Yemeni state institutions.

The WB delegation indicated that the bank had adopted a package of development projects in Yemen worth $400 million and will work to implement strategic projects in different parts of Yemen in cooperation with the Yemeni government.
