ADEN-SABA
The Government of Yemen is following with grave concern the Houthi militia’s detention of over 210 trucks for over a month in Ibb city. The trucks which are transporting food, medicine, and fuel for hospitals are part of the UN relief operation.
The militias are seeking to force UN agencies to pay customs for aid and relief materials that are exempted, by law, from all fees with absolute disregard to the extent to which this act will exacerbate the humanitarian suffering especially as we approach the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The Government is appalled by the continued silence of the international community and the lack of any serious pressure towards the militias in such a critical issue and deems it an encouragement to the militias to carry on with their crimes in spite of the consequent suffering.
The Government of Yemen calls upon the United Nations and the international community to exert serious and strong pressure on the militia to end the detention of the trucks and ensure the safe delivery of food, medicine and fuel to the real beneficiaries.
