Houthis met govt concessions with stubbornness and circumventions, says Hadi

President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi told the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths the Houthis had met the government's concessions offered during the different rounds of peace talks with stubbornness and circumventions.

In a reception of Griffiths in the Saudi capital on Tuesday in which they discussed the implementation of the Stockholm Agreementof 13 December, Hadi said that peace is a permanent option and attitude for the government and an aspiration of the Yemeni people.

He recalled the concessions the government has offered and how the Houthis unfortunately met that with stubbornness and circumventions around the consecutive agreements and statements of understanding. He cited the latest Houthi circumvention around the handover of the Hodeidah seaport, a requirement under the Stockholm Agreement, by performing a stage play such that plainclothes Houthis handed over the port to uniformed Houthis.

He also cited the failure of the rebel militia to set free prisoners and unblock the passageways of humanitarian relief aid.

Hadi affirmed the government's readiness to allow the resumption of flights from all Yemeni airports including the Houthi-held Sana'a Airport for humanitarian reasons.

Griffiths on his part appreciated Hadi's unlimited support and push for peace. He said the international community is closely watching the situation in Hodeida city and the steps to implement the Stockholm Agreement. He said he relayed to the Houthis this fact and the imperative of them fulfilling their obligations even though that we are already behind the schedule.
