Specialized Criminal Court reopens, tries terror case

The Specialized Criminal Court in the Aden has re-opened after nearly a three-year closure due to the conflict with Houthi-Saleh rebels and held its first session trying a terror case.

Presided over by judgeWaheebFadhl, the court heard charges against a number of peopleincluding participation in armed groups and belonging to al-Qaeda.

The court heard the responses of the defendants to the charges filed against them by the Criminal Prosecution and some of them asked for attorneys.

At the end of the session, the court decided to handle the charges against one of them discretely to issue a verdict on it. For the rest, the court adjourned the session to next week to allow them to appoint attorneys.

The chief of the Criminal Prosecution Mohammed Saleh told Saba that the courts have restored back their functionality saying the trial of Wednesday will be the beginning for further trials on terrorism and drug trades and promotion.
