Yemen, US discuss rebels' recent escalation
[07/11/2017 07:23]

RIYADH-SABA
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulmalik al-Mikhlafi discussed on Tuesday with US Ambassador to Yemen Mathew Tueller latest developments in Yemen and recent Houthi-Saleh militias' escalation inside and outside the country.

Al-Mikhlafi confirmed that targeting Riyadh by an Iranian-made rocket by Houthi-Saleh's rebels, mobilizing and escalation in the besieged city of Taiz, targeting civilians and storming liberated areas in Taiz province clearly shows coup d'états' plots on rejecting negotiations and reviving peace track and political solution.

Houthi-Saleh militias are making use of the status quo for exhausting the country and seizing the stat's resources without any commitment to the Yemeni people in their held-areas, said al-Mikhlafi, adding the de facto decision of the militias is made in Tehran, which provides them with weapons and experts to destroy Yemen.

He expressed concern over Iranian escalation in the region after the regional countries rejected the policy of the real situation practiced by Teheran to impose its sectarian project to dominate the region while it updates missiles in a stark defy of the UN Security Council's resolutions on missile experiment and challenges the Resolution 2216 under the seventh chapter, which prohibits supplying Yemen's rebels with weapons.

He confirmed that the countries sponsoring political settlement in Yemen must exert pressure on Iran to stop its aggressive practices against Yemen and the region, adding; efforts of the International Community should be integrated for banning smuggling weapons from Iran.

For his part, the US diplomat confirmed his country's denouncement for targeting Saudi Arabia as an act does not serve US efforts for bringing Yemeni parties back around dialogue table for reaching political solution in accordance to the references.

He stressed on cooperation with the government for failing Houthi-Saleh's plots and maintaining peace as a choice for solution in Yemen, noting that the US will continue support to the government and coordination with her and the countries of the coalition for halting smuggling via ground and marine outlets.

He confirmed rejection of the United States to Iran's policy against Yemen and the region and support to rebel militias.
