His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) stated that any approach to put an end of the war in Yemen will never be successful, unless it deals with the Houthi militias as part of an Iranian cross-border scheme, and not as a local political party, warning that reducing any crisis of this kind to truces and arrangements for a ceasefire will lead to temporary risk management rather than building sustainable peace.

Investigation committee meets diplomatic missions to Yemen

The National Committee for Investigating Claims of Human Rights held a meeting with ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions to Yemen with the aim of cooperation and information exchange on human rights.

They also touched on the conduct of the committee's operations and outcomes of the investigations reached in its third report which covered the period from September 2016 to June 2017.

The ambassadors were given copies of the third report issued by the committee on all violations committed by different parties across Yemen.

The committee's chief made a presentation on the methodology of investigation conducted the committee and its works in all governorates and districts, expressing willingness to partner with all civil society organizations interested in human rights.

Ambassadors of Britain, Russia and Turkey, and Representative of Germany stressed the importance of efforts made by the committee to defend human rights, urging to visit secret detention centers and prisons run by all parties.

The Russian Ambassador to Yemen expressed readiness to coordinate with the Houthi-Saleh militias to facilitate investigation of violations committed in the areas run by them.

Representative of the European Union to Yemen underscored the European Commission's concern over the human rights situation in Yemen and the need for cooperation between the committee and the commission in pressuring all parties to ensure humanitarian access to all affected areas.
