Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Health and Population for the Primary Health Care Sector Dr. Ali al-Waleedi discussed Monday with UNICEF Deputy Representative to Yemen Dr. Majid al-Tawwal and his accompanying delegation ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership in the areas of health and nutrition.

The meeting addressed the organization’s programs and interventions, as well as ways to develop them in a manner that contributes to strengthening primary health care services, improving their accessibility to target groups, and meeting existing health needs across various governorates.

During the meeting, Dr. al-Waleedi expressed his appreciation for the support provided by UNICEF to the health sector and for its effective interventions in supporting maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition and primary health care programs.

He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening cooperation frameworks with UNICEF and expanding interventions in line with actual priorities and needs, in a way that ensures the sustainability of services, builds the capacities of health workers, and strengthens preventive programs.

He also stressed the importance of unifying efforts and maintaining continuous coordination to achieve the best possible outcomes for citizens, particularly women and children.

For his part, the UNICEF Deputy Representative reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing its support for the health sector and strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Health.

He highlighted the importance of joint efforts to develop health and nutrition programs and respond to humanitarian and health needs in ways that contribute to improving health indicators and enhancing access to essential services for the most vulnerable groups.

Following the meeting, the Undersecretary for Primary Health Care and the UNICEF Deputy Representative inspected the project to construct the sector’s main meeting hall, which is scheduled to be implemented with funding from UNICEF.

They were briefed on the project, its components, and the facilities it will provide as a suitable environment for technical and coordination meetings and discussions.
