Minister al-Sharjabi Discusses with FAO Ways to Enhance Cooperation in Water and Environmental Sectors

Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq al-Sharjabi held talks Wednesday with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Resident Representative in Yemen Dr. Adam Yao on avenues for joint cooperation in a number of projects and programs related to the water, environment, and natural resources sectors.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of supporting the General Authority for Water Resources with capacity-building programs to help restore its activities and strengthen its technical and institutional capabilities in water resources management.
They also discussed expediting procedures for transferring the project to the ministry and preparations for holding the project's Steering Committee meeting at the end of August, as well as beginning preparations and planning for new projects, building on the ongoing discussions and coordination between the ministry's technical team and the FAO.
The meeting further addressed the institutional support being provided to the ministry in light of a request submitted to the FAO, with the aim of strengthening the ministry's capabilities and improving its performance in the fields of water and the environment.
Minister al-Sharjabi underscored the importance of strengthening the partnership with the FAO and benefiting from its expertise and programs to support the priorities of the water and environmental sectors.
He stressed the need to maintain coordination to accelerate the implementation of ongoing projects and prepare for future ones, while expressing appreciation for the organization's support to the ministry and its institutions.
For his part, the FAO Resident Representative affirmed the organization's commitment to continuing cooperation and partnership with the Ministry of Water and Environment and supporting its priorities in the areas of water, the environment, and natural resources.
He highlighted the importance of joint coordination to advance the implementation of ongoing projects, prepare for future projects, and strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of relevant national authorities.
