Yemen, IOM Discuss Aligning Interventions with Government Priorities

Yemen, Malaysia Discuss Strengthening Health Cooperation

Yemen's Ambassador to Malaysia Dr. Adel Bahumayd discussed on Monday with Malaysian Health Minister Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health sector and develop health diplomacy channels to serve the shared interests of the two friendly countries.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed several priority areas for future cooperation, including training and capacity building, strengthening primary healthcare systems, advancing digital health, cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as medical and humanitarian assistance.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination and efforts to identify practical and implementable programs and initiatives that would support Yemen's efforts to rehabilitate and develop its health sector, while further strengthening the existing friendship and cooperation between Yemen and Malaysia.

Ambassador Bahumayd reviewed the major challenges facing Yemen's health sector, emphasizing the country's need to rebuild and enhance its public health system and benefit from successful international expertise and experiences.

He praised Malaysia's advanced experience in managing healthcare systems, public health, primary healthcare, digital health and pharmaceutical industries, expressing Yemen's appreciation for the contributions of Malaysian non-governmental organizations and their active humanitarian role in supporting the Yemeni people and alleviating their suffering during the years of crisis.
