NEW YORK-SABA
The United Nations Regional Office for Arab States has honored Yemen's Ambassador to the United States, Jameela Ali Raja, as one of three distinguished Arab women diplomats recognized on the International Day of Women in Diplomacy.
The recognition celebrated the achievements of diplomats from Yemen, Palestine, and Morocco for their contributions to international dialogue, peacebuilding, and the representation of their countries on the global stage.
In highlighting Raja's career, the UN office noted that she became the first Yemeni woman to be appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the United States, describing her appointment as a significant milestone for Yemeni women in diplomacy.
The office also pointed to her nearly three decades of experience spanning diplomacy, media, politics, peacebuilding, and human rights. Raja participated in Yemen's National Dialogue Conference, served as Deputy Chair of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, and contributed to numerous initiatives aimed at advancing political dialogue and expanding women's participation in public life.
According to the UN office, the honorees represent prominent examples of Arab diplomatic leadership and reflect the growing role of women in decision-making positions, as well as ongoing efforts to promote peace, development, and international representation.
