Al-Arada Meets with the International Committee of the Red Cross

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, Sultan al-Arada met Monday with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), headed by the ICRC Head of Mission in Yemen, Christine Cipolla to discuss the overall situation and ways to strengthen joint cooperation and coordination in implementing humanitarian programs and projects.

During the meeting, attended by the Head of the ICRC Mission Office in Aden Amira Kdeir Al-Arada reviewed the humanitarian conditions in Marib Governorate amid the continued influx of displaced people from various governorates, highlighting the increasing challenges this places on basic services and infrastructure.

The meeting also discussed existing areas of cooperation between the local authority and the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as mechanisms to enhance humanitarian interventions in priority sectors.

The member of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the humanitarian role played by the ICRC in Yemen, as well as its efforts in implementing projects and programs, supporting and advancing the humanitarian file related to prisoners and detainees, and its continued efforts to facilitate prisoner exchange operations between the parties. He also praised the humanitarian services provided by the committee, which contribute to reuniting families and easing the suffering of thousands of families across different governorates.

Al-Arada stressed the importance of continuing these humanitarian efforts and strengthening coordination to ensure the success of initiatives aimed at releasing prisoners and detainees under the principle of “all for all”, in accordance with UN principles and international humanitarian law.

He also renewed his full readiness to provide the necessary facilities to support the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross and its interventions across various fields.

For her part, the head of the ICRC delegation affirmed the committee’s commitment to continuing humanitarian work and strengthening partnership and coordination with relevant authorities in order to ensure an effective response to humanitarian needs and help alleviate the suffering of citizens.
