Yemen, Japan Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Security

Yemen and Japan discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments during talks in Tokyo on Friday.

Yemeni Ambassador to Japan Adel Al-Sunaini met with Taro Kono, a member of Japan's House of Representatives and chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

The discussions focused on the importance of safeguarding international shipping lanes and Yemen's strategic role in regional and global maritime security due to its location overlooking one of the world's most vital trade routes.

Ambassador Al-Sunaini expressed the Yemeni government's appreciation for the strong relations between the two countries and briefed the Japanese lawmaker on recent political, economic and development developments in Yemen. He also highlighted progress made by the government in implementing economic and institutional reforms and voiced hope for enhanced Japanese support for Yemen's recovery, stabilization and development priorities.
