Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Member and Hadramout Governor Salem Ahmed al-Khanbashi held a series of meetings in Mukalla on Wednesday to review the performance of key service and productive institutions and discuss development plans aimed at enhancing their contribution to local development and improving public services.
During a meeting with Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mukalla Fish Canning Factory (Al-Ghuwayzi), Omar Bawazir, al-Khanbashi was briefed on the factory’s operations, future development plans, and efforts to improve efficiency and ensure sustainable production.
Discussions also covered the factory’s approved production plan, measures to maintain product quality in line with established standards, and strategies to expand marketing and export activities to local, regional, and international markets, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness and commercial presence of Yemeni products.
Al-Khanbashi praised the efforts of the factory’s management and workforce, emphasizing the importance of preserving and continuously developing the industrial facility as a valuable national economic asset. He highlighted its role in supporting the local economy, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening value chains within the fisheries sector.
The PLC member also met with Director General of Hadramout’s Local Land Transport Corporation, Abdullah al-Attas, to discuss efforts to modernize public transport infrastructure in the governorate.
The meeting reviewed proposals to utilize the corporation’s land and assets for the establishment of modern central bus stations that would help regulate transport services, improve operational efficiency, enhance road safety, and provide better services to citizens, particularly in Mukalla.
Al-Khanbashi listened to a briefing on the main challenges facing the corporation and reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at developing the public transport sector, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting urban development across the governorate.
In a separate meeting, al-Khanbashi reiterated the local authority’s support for the Hadramout branch of the School Textbook Printing Presses, stressing the importance of ensuring the timely availability of textbooks and maintaining stability in the educational process.
During his meeting with the branch’s Director General, Mohammed Bawazir, he received a detailed briefing on the printing operations, ongoing efforts to secure textbook production, available capabilities, and prospects for future cooperation.
The discussions focused on strengthening institutional partnerships to support local textbook printing and expand production capacity, thereby reducing logistical burdens and ensuring the timely distribution of textbooks to schools at the beginning of each academic year.
Al-Khanbashi affirmed the local authority’s commitment to addressing challenges facing these vital institutions within available resources, stressing the importance of enhancing their performance in support of economic, service, and educational development in Hadramout.
