Human Rights Minister, EU Delegation Discuss Cooperation on Rights and Institutional Reform
Minister of Human Rights Mishal Omar met today in the temporary capital Aden with a delegation from the European Union mission to Yemen, headed by Patrick Simonet, to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation in the field of human rights, institutional reform, and the protection of public freedoms.

Al-Arada: Protecting antiquities national responsibility

The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Governor of Marib governorate Sultan al-Arada stated that the protection of the Yemeni antiquities is a national duty, official and communal efforts need to be joined to preserve them.

"The protection of the archeological sites is considered to be a national responsibility", he said.
He noted that that the local authority in Marib governorate is preparing to launch a project to fence off the archaeological sites in the governorate.

His remarks came during his meeting today, Saturday, with the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism in the caretaker government Muammar al-Eryani, our country's ambassador to UNESCO Dr. Mohammed Jameih and the President of the American Institute for Human Studies and Special Advisor to the American Council for Oversees Research Centers Dr. Zaydoon Zaid.

Al-Arada highly appreciated the interest of the American Foundation for Human and Civilization Studies in the Yemeni antiquities, which has had long-standing cooperation with Yemen for many decades.

Dr. Jumeih indicated that UNESCO can provide support in the fields of training and qualification, underlining the necessity of carrying out fencing works in accordance with the provisions of the 1972 Convention for the Protection of the Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Dr. Zaid stated that American Foundation is willing to work with the Yemeni government and the local authority in Marib to preserve the governorate's antiquities and support local staff with training and qualification programs.

He mentioned that the Foundation is determined to hold the next session of the Sabaean Conference in Marib governorate.
