The CEO of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs Fahim Saif discussed Monday with the Director of Marine Projects at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Murad Shishani ways to enhance the Authority's capabilities in the field of combating marine pollution.
The meeting reviewed the technical and technological needs for developing environmental emergency response systems, in addition to raising the efficiency of national cadres through training, qualification and capacity building programmes and coordinating the implementation of a training course to train trainers to respond to marine oil pollution incidents during the coming week in the temporary capital, Aden, targeting 22 trainees.
Saif stressed the Authority's keenness to strengthen the partnership with the United Nations Development Programme to support the government's efforts to maintain the safety of navigation, protect the marine environment in territorial waters, and expand areas of technical cooperation in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development goals in the maritime sector.
For his part, the Director of Marine Projects at (UNDP) praised the level of coordination and cooperation existing with the Authority.
He stressed the program's readiness to provide all possible technical and technological support to enhance the Authority's capabilities in the areas of combating marine pollution, in line with national priorities and sustainable development plans.
