Yemen warns against consequences of the Houthis' stubbornness in prolonging conflict
[09/07/2025 06:29]

NEW YORK - SABA
The Republic of Yemen has warned against the consequences of the continued stubbornness of the terrorist Houthi militias in insisting on prolonging the conflict and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis for Yemenis, and continuing their plans to return to a cycle of violence and war, drowning Yemen in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

This was stated in a statement by the Republic of Yemen delivered by its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi on Wednesday before the Security Council during the open session on the situation in the Middle East (Yemen).

The Republic of Yemen also warned against the Houthi militias dragging Yemen and its people into destructive regional conflicts, holding the militias and their supporters fully responsible for the grave consequences resulting from any reckless actions that could drown Yemen in more crises, including militarizing international waterways and threatening food security, as well as the remaining opportunities for Yemenis to live, worsening the humanitarian crisis.

"Our patient Yemeni people face enormous economic challenges and an immeasurable humanitarian crisis as this conflict enters its eleventh year, which has persisted for a long time due to the war waged by the Houthi terrorist militias backed by the Iranian regime."

He reiterated the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to continue all efforts to promote a just, sustainable, and comprehensive peace process, as well as positively engaging with regional and international efforts and the United Nations' endeavors through its Special Envoy to Yemen to end this conflict.

"Achieving peace and stability in Yemen requires demonstrating commitment and serious willingness from the Houthi militias to positively and in good faith engage with regional and international efforts aimed at ending the Yemeni crisis, abandoning the option of war and escalation, prioritizing the interests of the Yemeni people over their own and those of their supporters, and relinquishing their destabilizing approach in Yemen and the region," he added.

He pointed out that areas under the control of the Houthi terrorist militias have become arenas of oppression and terrorism, inflicting the most heinous violations against the Yemeni people, including killings, kidnappings, torture, extortion, imposing taxes, looting private and public properties, recruiting thousands of children, and sending them to the fronts of death. Additionally, they have planted hundreds of thousands of landmines, explosive munitions, and improvised explosive devices randomly in various areas under their control, intending to harm innocent civilians, especially children, women, and the elderly, instilling fear in the hearts of the secure, and committing a long series of systematic violations targeting Yemenis in their lives, properties, and sources of livelihood, in blatant violation of all international charters and humanitarian laws and moral values.

The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations continued, "The latest of these Houthi crimes is the horrific crime committed by the Houthi militias in the al-Salfiah District of Raima Governorate, where they killed Sheikh Saleh Hantous and his grandson and injured his wife after besieging his home and launching an armed attack targeting the destruction of the house and burning the neighboring houses, reflecting the brutality of these militias and attempting to break the will of the Yemeni community and impose their destructive project by force of arms and terrorism."

He went on to say, "These crimes are part of a recurring pattern of these militias' criminal acts against Yemenis, clearly revealing a vengeful mentality that disregards the dignity of the Yemeni people and the land, continuing their destructive project by targeting all aspects of life, stability, and dignified living, terrorizing the population, and pushing them towards displacement."

He emphasized that these crimes against Yemenis who reject their oppressive and racist project will not go unpunished.
