Yemen says destroying hospitals, not allowing aid into Gaza ushers in spread of epidemics in war-torn territory
[10/12/2023 03:22]
Geneva - Saba
Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasim Buhaybeh participated in a special session of the WHO Executive Board held here on Sunday 10 December 2023 , to discuss a draft resolution submitted by Yemen, Qatar, Pakistan, and Morocco regarding health situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Minister Buhaybeh delivered a speech on behalf of the EMRO group and a speech on Yemen's behalf, in which he renewed the Republic of Yemen’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation army’s resumption of its aggression against the Gaza Strip, and the necessity of immediate action to establish a ceasefire, bring in aid, and provide relief to the Palestinian people for the tragic health situation in the Strip.

He said, "Destroying hospitals, not allowing the entry of aid, medicines, and medical supplies, killing health personnel, and cutting off water, electricity, and fuel ushers in the spread of epidemics, humanitarian risks, a disastrous environment, and infectious diseases as a result of the accumulation of dead bodies in the streets.

The Republic of Yemen supports work on three tracks: urgent medical aid, an active diplomatic track, supporting the reconstruction of destroyed health infrastructure and protecting medical personnel.”

Dr. Buhaybeh called on the international community to fulfill its obligations towards human rights and international humanitarian law by sharing in bearing the burden, as the only way to achieve security and peace in the region is to establish an independent Palestinian state with Eastern Al-Quds as its capital.
