[22/09/2023 02:57]
New York - Saba
President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council Member Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi met today, Friday, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, on the sidelines of the meetings of the seventy-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting discussed emergency humanitarian interventions, relief work led by United Nations agencies in Yemen, and coordinated efforts with the international community to mobilize more funds and alleviate the burden of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, which was exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil installations.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the keenness of the Council and the government to provide all necessary facilities to humanitarian organizations, and to strengthen their role in providing life-saving aid in various parts of the country.

The President renewed his sincere condolences and solidarity with the humanitarian community regarding the incidents and unfortunate attacks that affected some relief employees, stressing the commitment of the Leadership Council and the government to secure humanitarian activities, and to work to pursue the perpetrators of these attacks and bring them to justice to receive their deterrent punishment.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council encouraged UN relief agencies to transfer their funding through the Central Bank of Yemen, because of its importance in strengthening the position of the national currency, alleviating human suffering, and drying up the sources of the war economy run by the Houthi militias and the terrorist organizations serving them.

The UN official presented the areas of emergency relief, the repercussions of the noticeable decline in donor funding for the humanitarian response plan in Yemen, and UN preparations to mobilize international support for next year's plan.
