President al-Alimi calls for speeding up international support to boost water security

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi has confirmed that Yemeni water security is utmost priority in the programs of service and institutional reforms adopted by the presidential council and the government.

In comments he made in a high-level roundtable on water security held here on Tuesday, President al-Alimi expressed hope that the international efforts of facing climate changes would lead to speeding up work and strategies to implement projects dealing with natural disaster associated with water and facilitating transforming of technology and early warning systems to limit losses of climate disasters in Yemen and developing countries.

He reviewed indicators of water situation in Yemen including low ranges of rainfall, high evaporation percentages and reduction of individual share of water to one percent of international average share.

He pointed out to impacts of climate changes witnessed by Yemen in recent years including draught period, storms, and destructive floods which led to big losses of souls, possessions and sweeping lands, in addition to harming many water resources and polluting them and Houthi terrorist militia's approach of consuming water resources.

President al-Alimi confirmed commitment of the government of Yemen on working with its regional and international partners to work on rehabilitating water services and sanitation and other environmental issues.
