Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Muammer al-Irayani said the Yemeni government has exerted intensive efforts in order to keep the cultural heritage out of the armed conflict and its consequences.
He stated that the government has made constant efforts to manage the multiple challenges the Yemeni cultural heritage has been facing since the start of the ongoing conflict. He pointed to the repair actions targeted the historical cities of the old city of Sana'a, Shibam Hadramout, Zabid and Aden.
His statements came during his contribution to the deliberations of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – mondiacult 2022.
The three-day gathering sessions started last Wednesday in Mexico.
The Minister provided a detailed presentation about the serious damage the Yemeni cultural heritage has suffered due to the ongoing armed conflict triggered by Iran-backed Houthi militias.
He cited a long-list of the Houthi militias' violations against Yemen's culture heritage, history and culture.
