The Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, met with the US Ambassador to Yemen Steven H. Fagin today in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

During the meeting, the overall situation on the Yemeni arena was discussed.

Dr. Bin Daghr referred to the ongoing violations of the humanitarian truce by the Houthi militia, calling on the international community and the United States to intervene to stop the bloodshed, and to prevent the Houthi militia from carrying out more actions and practices that would undermine national unity, tear the social fabric and work to pave the way to peaceful solutions within the framework of the agreed basic references.

He noted the dangers of Iran's continuing to support the aggressive actions of the Houthis and their proxies in the region, and the risks that this poses to regional and international security, stressing that addressing Iran's expansionist policies in the region can only be achieved with more cooperation between the Arab coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States and the international community.

For his part, the US ambassador affirmed the United States' adherence to the unity, security, stability and sovereignty of Yemen, and his country's support for direct negotiations between the legitimacy represented in the Presidential Leadership Council and the Houthi militia expressing President Biden's interest in the peace track, and Yemen's economic support, to lessen the suffering of Yemenis.
