Yemen has called for UN pressures on the Iran-backed Houthi militia to engage in a ceasefire without any preconditions to pave the way for a political process.
The country's permanent representative to the UN Abdullah Al-Saadi said in a meeting with the UN peace mediator Hans Grundberg in New York today it is essential to pressure the militia to accept the option of peace bow to the demands of the UN Secretary General to cease hostilities.
The Houthi militia have been waging a years-long war to expand into government-held territories, exacerbating bloodshed, humanitarian crisis and economic conditions in Yemen to unprecedented levels.
