RIYADH-SABA
Yemen's Information Minister has condemned the Houthi militia's extortion of private businesses in the name of the religious tax of 'Zakat'.
In a statement to Saba, Muammar al-Eryani, said the Houthi militia are "extorting the businesses that are still holding fast in
the territories under the control of the militia."
"The terrorist militia has kidnapped traders; stormed and shut down dozens of factories and business stores; and banned the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from organizing a press conference" on the violations against businesses in Sana'a.
He said that the militia "since its coup [of 21 September 2014] mounted an organized extortion of the private businesses to finance its pointless wars on the Yemeni people … even though it had eradicated the people's means of livelihood by looting the public treasury and public salaries."
