Greater interventions in humanitarian, development spheres needed, says minister

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the Caretaker government Dr. Najeeb al-Weg called on the donor countries to increase their interventions in the humanitarian and development domains to help mitigating economic hardships the Yemeni people have been struggling with due to Iran-backed theocratic Houthi militia's coup and war.

He stated that humanitarian situations has been seriously exacerbated , there are 24 million need humanitarian aids and over 60% of the population are facing food insecurity.

His remarks came as he chaired the eighth meeting of the Steering Committee of the Livelihood and Support Survival capacity Project in Rural areas.

The discussions held virtually on Wednesday with contribution by the resident representative of the UNDP in Yemen, Nahid Hussein, team leader of the international cooperation of the EU Carline Hedstrum and the Regional Director for the Middle East of the Swedish Agency for International Development Peter Lundeberg
