Planning minister praises efforts of Netherlands for supporting Yemen

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Najeeb al-Awej has praised efforts of Netherlands for supporting development and relief in Yemen.

In a meeting held through visual communication with Dutch Ambassador to Yemen Peter Dereck on Tuesday, he praised relations between the two countries date back to 40 years, reviewing deteriorated economic conditions in Yemen over the war triggered by Houthi militia and the eruption of coronavirus pandemic.

He pointed out that supporting developmental programs and projects and creating sustainable chances represent a track to peace and stability in Yemen, confirming significance of transferring interventions of donors and development partners from relief into economic recovery and sustainable development projects.

He pointed to government's priorities of improving sectors of health, education and transport for their importance in realizing economic recovery and stability and supporting peace process through investing human resources.

Al-Awej thanked Netherlands for providing USD 7 million for supporting deteriorated health sector in Yemen, confirming significance of activating Yemeni-Dutch Joint Committee and exchanging meetings for cooperation in fields of capacity building and managing crises.

For his part, the Dutch diplomat showed welcome for reactivating the joint committee and exchanging meetings for serving the interests of the two countries.

The two parties agreed on exchanging information in economic and developmental fields, making communication points, reactivating the committee and following up developmental and relief programs provided by Netherlands
