The recent republican decisions issued yesterday, Thursday, marked a new turning point in promoting the participation of Yemeni women in decision-making positions. The decisions included the appointment of Dr. Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zouba as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, making her the first woman in the country's history to hold this sovereign portfolio. Yemen Parliament speaker calls on UN, IPU to take tough stance on Houthi abuses

Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament has called on the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union on the abuses by Yemen's Houthi militias against Yemeni civilians including MPs.

In a letter addressed to the UN peace mediator in Yemen Martin Griffiths and to the IPU, Sultan al-Barakani said the militia are committing terrorist abuses in the country as the United Nations organization stands by silently. He cited the militia's recent storming of a house belonging to an MP in Sana'a, the eviction of the resident family by force and occupation of a house.

He also cited the militia's rounding up of thousands of oppositionists in its horrible Sana'a jails and killing many prisoners under torture.
