The Regional Organization for the Conservation of Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) is holding the Yemeni rebel militia of Houthis responsible for any possible oil spill from a corroded oil tanker they didn't allow UN experts to maintain.
The secretary general of the Saudi-based environmental authority Ziyad Abu-Ghararah said the Houthi denial of maintenance experts access to the long deserted tanker has highly complicated the threat the vessel loaded with 1.4 million barrels of crude oil poses.
He said that more than one million oil barrels may leak and cause an unprecedented disaster for the Red Sea and the Yemeni islands rich with biodiversity.
