RIYADH-SABA
A source in the Yemeni government said the militia, known as the Southern Transitional Council, carried out a full-blow coup d'état in the archipelago of Socotra, at the entrance of the Gulf of Aden, on Friday.
In a statement to Saba, the source said the separatist militia mounted an attack with medium and heavy arms against the state institutions including military barracks before capturing the city.
"By this act, the STC presented enough evidences that is only a militia modeled on the Houthi militia in the northern governorates to carry out an identical coup in the southern governorates," said the source.
"The government won't accept this disorder and won't be lenient at all with the chaos of this armed militia in Socotra and anywhere else in the country."
The source called on the Arab Coalition to force the STC to reverse their moves and abide by the November Riyadh Agreement.
