Donor conference collects USD 1.3 billion to Yemen

The initial results of financial pledges made during the supposed donor conference to Yemen have shown that more than USD 1.3 billion have been collected from the countries participate in the conference organized by Saudi Arabia and the UN here on Tuesday.

The donor conference confirmed continuous support of Saudi Arabia and the UN to the Yemeni people, said the General Monitor of King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Activities Center Abdullah al-Rabi'a in a press conference for him and the UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs after concluding the donor conference.

He made it clear that the donations made in the conference will be used for carrying out many projects by UN and international agencies, pointing out to continuous support of Saudi Arabia to Yemen and Yemenis and for combating corona virus, as well as providing medical assistances and supporting many medical facilities in Yemen.

He called the UN and donors to honor their financial commitments to Yemen, which needs support and care from all.

He confirmed that the financial donations to Yemen will be protected for avoiding transferring them to Houthis by third party saying: " We will be frank in expressing such violations if any and the international community will be in picture.

Al-Rabi'a said the speakers in the conference agreed on significance of reaching to political solution to Yemen's crisis and working on coordinating efforts for helping Yemen face corona endemic.

For his part, the UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lukwok reviewed the nature of UN's activities in Yemen, confirming commitment to provide assistances to needy people.
