A workshop on the "standards and guarantees of a fair trial" organized by Foundation for Supporting Civil Democratic Orientation in coordination with the Renewal for Development and Democracy, an NGO, concluded today in the interim capital Aden.
The three-day workshop, within a project for supporting judicial and security authorities in Yemen with backing from the UNDP, aimed at briefing 28 participants and judges, prosecutors and civil society organizations on the rules of fair trial and references on them in international and national charters and the importance of their application to ensure justice.
Participants also learned about the shortcomings national laws and the need to develop them in accordance with social development, and to identify the legal nature of crimes that occur during armed conflicts and terrorist acts.
The workshop recommended reviewing national legislation on fair trial standards and initiating a law to prevent gender-based violence.
