RIYADH-SABA
MASAM removed 2956 Houthi-laid landmines in the first week of September alone, the Saudi demining project announced.
In a statement today, MASAM said its experts unearthed nine anti-personnel landmines, 350 anti-tank landmines, and 2544 UXOs among the explosives.
Over the past year MASAM said it removed 87781 landmines. The Iran-backed militia is the only warring party that plants landmines in Yemen, leaving the Yemeni government and the Saudi program with the huge challenge of its clearance.
The landmines, disguised as rocks or otherwise camouflaged, have left hundreds of Yemenis, mainly civilians, dead or limbless.
