Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik has phone called the governor of Shabwah Mohammed bin Edeiw after government forces thwarted an armed attack by militants from the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) on the southeastern Yemen province.
The militants tried to capture the provincial capital following the capture of the country's temporary capital on August 11 and, later, Abyan province to the north.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the efforts of the local authority and the army to repel such attempts that only serve the Iran-backed Houthi militia who want to seize the country.
Abdulmalik praised the Saudi role in helping end the military escalation by the separatist militia.
