Vice President (Lt Gen) Ali Mohsen Saleh received on Wednesday the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen Martin Griffths and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting the latest developments in the Yemeni national arena and underway efforts to establish permanent peace in Yemen were discussed.
The Vice President has made it clear that the legitimate government has been very keen on establishing peace and implementing Stockholm Agreement in full, particularity regarding the virtual withdrawal of Houthi militia from Hodeidah' seaports and city and prisoners exchange.
The Vice President voiced appreciation for the constructive response by the UN Secretary General and his assertion on the importance of the fully implementation of the Swede agreement, and that the legitimate Yemeni government is the only representative of the Yemeni people and the constructive relation with the government is the key factor to get the crisis resolved and resume peace process.
Mohsen also has made it clear that since the first moment the legitimate government has been dealing constructively and flexibly with the UN's envoy. He stated that per instructions by President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi the government has already offered many concessions in order to help allaying the Yemeni peoples' suffering, putting down the coup and reinstated the official authority in accordance with the three terms of reference.
The Vice President expressed hopes that the UN Secretary General's reassurances included in his letter to President Hadi will be carried out. He stated that the legitimate government per President Hadi's directives will be reengaged constructively in the efforts of the UN's envoy to bring peace process back to the right path that based on the three terms of reference and the essence of Stockholm Agreement.
The Vice President pointed out to the military escalation by Iran-aligned Houthi militia that has stepped in attacks against Saudi Arabia by drones and firing ballistic missiles and targeting international maritime navigation. He noted that the militia has been doing so in order to prolong the war and the humanitarian crisis.
For his part, Mr Griffiths reiterated the UN commitment to the three terms of reference including the GCC, Its operational mechanism, outcomes of National Dialogue and International Security Council resolution 2216. He also stated that he is obliged to carry out the UN Secretary General's instructions. He cited several topics relating to the resumption of peace process.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al-Hadrami and Deputy of the UN envoy Ma'eenSharim were in attendance.
