U.S. Treasury Sanctions 21 Individuals, Entities for Involvement in Financing Houthi Militias
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced today the designation of 21 individuals and entities, as well as the identification of one vessel, on the sanctions list for their involvement in transporting petroleum products, purchasing weapons and equipment and providing financial services to the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

Info. Minister calls on US administration to designate Houthis terror group

Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani has renewed the Yemeni government's demands for a US designation of the Yemeni militia of Houthis as a terrorist group.

In a meeting with the US the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Arabian Gulf Affairs in the Near East Bureau at the U.S.
Department of State Tim Lenderking and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Press and Public Diplomacy here today, al-Eryani reviewed the situations in Yemen and the government's support for peace mediation efforts to secure an end to the Houthi coup mounted in 2014.

He said that the government "gives room to the peace process time after time but the Houthis react to the peace mediation efforts in a negative way and rather use truce moments to solidify their military position."

He noted that the Houthi-held territories have edged closer to famine as the militia seize food aid and resell them to finance their insurgency."

He cited the government's endeavors to pay salaries to public servicemen and normalize life in the government-held territories in different ways. He also cited the Arab Coalition and the US support to Yemen to end the coup ad maintain the unity and security of Yemen.
