Yemen, UN sign on cooperation agreement

NAIROBI-SABA
The Republic of Yemen signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat). The agreement inked on Wednesday in the Kenyan capital Nairobi with the presence of the Prime MinisterDrMa'eenAbdulmalik and the UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimuna Sharif.

The agreement signed by Minister of Public Works and Highways Dr Mohammed Thabiton behalf of Yemen and the Director of Regional Bureau of Arab countries in the UN-Habitat Program DrArfan Ali.

Under the agreement an Office of the UN-Habitat to be established in the temporary capital Aden to work out the framework of cooperation between the UN-Habitat Program and the government of Republic of Yemen.

The program aims to provide necessary support for developing sustainable cities socially and environmentally, supporting local authorities and communities in terms of endorsing the mechanisms of a more sustainable urbanization development .

DrMa'een held session with Maimunah Sharif devoted to discuss the UN-Habitat's projects and activities in Yemen.

The Prime Minister welcomed establishing an Office of the UN-Habitat in the temporary capital Aden, promising all necessary support to enable the office doing its job successfully.
