Yemen, U.S. share vision of Iran's threat to the region
[14/02/2019 04:27]

WARSAW-SABA

Foreign Minister Khaled Alyemany and his American counterpart Mike Pompeo confirmed that Iran's expansionist policy poses a threat to security and peace in the region—in general—and in Yemen in particular by supporting Houthi rebel militia, creating chaos and threatening international maritime lines southern the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

As they met Thursday in Polish capital Warsaw the two ministers have underscored the need for a firm stance by International Community (IC) to counter the Iranian regime's subversive policy in the region and the world.

Alyemany highlighted the important role the U.S. has been playing in pushing peace process ahead in Yemen and ensuring the implementation of Stockholm's Agreement.

He called on the U.S. and IC to ramp pressures upon the Houthis and their backer Iran in order to comply with International resolutions, putting Stockholm's Agreement in place as a key step forward to reach sustainable peace based on the three terms of reference.

For his part, Pompeo reiterated his administration's support for legality in Yemen and the UN's envoy's efforts to reach permanent solution to the crisis.
