Deputy Minister: Yemeni women hit the hardest by Houthi coup
[02/12/2018 04:23]
OUAGADOUGOU-SABA
Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labor said "the Yemeni women were hit the hardest by Houthi coup" against the government in 2014 and the war the Houthi militia launched the following year.

Addressing the 'Role of Women in Development' a seminar held in the capital of Burkina Faso on Sunday, Sadeq al-Jomaee said the "the Houthi hijacking of state institutions made women suffer the most as women's contribution to Yemen's development was brought to a final end."

"Women were also a direct victim of the Houthi crimes during the war; thousands of women were killed and injured, sometimes permanently," he said.

He said that "the war destroyed the education and heath infrastructure and caused the closure of factories and companies in which women occupied a great lot of positions." "Among the tens of thousands of people displaced by the Houthi militia are many women and children."

He called on all countries to help Yemen end the Houthi coup and restore the state back to power.
