Saudi air defenses intercept Houthi ballistic missile
[18/08/2018 01:32]

RIYADH-SABA
The Saudi air defense forces intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Iranian-backed Houthi militia toward the kingdom's territories on Friday.

The spokesman for the Arab Coalition forces Col. Turki al-Maliki said in a press statement that "the missile was heading toward the city of Najran, it had been deliberately launched to strike civilian and populated areas."

It was intercepted and destroyed in a desert region and therefore the fragments incurred no casualties.

He said that "this hostile action by the Houthi militia proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Houthi armed group with quality capabilities in a clear and explicit defiance of the UN resolution no. 2216 and resolution no. 2231."

He said that these violations threaten the Saudi, regional and international security.

The Houthi militia have so far fired a total of 176 ballistic missiles toward Saudi territories.
