FM meets GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Political & Negotiation Affairs

RIYADH-SABA
Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi met in Riyah on Sunday with the GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Political & Negotiation Affairs Abdel Aziz Abu Hamad Aluwaisheg.

The two officials discussed the political developments and the outcome of the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths' visit to Yemen.

al-Mekhlafi affirmed the Yemeni government's support for Griffiths' efforts to broker a permanent peace based on the basic terms of reference; the GCC Initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the UN Security Council resolutions relevant to the crisis, foremost of which is resolution no. 2216.

The UN resolutions require the Houthi rebels to hand over arms and cities to the government.

For his part, Aluwaisheg affirmed the GCC's support for the government and the efforts of peace as per the three terms of reference.
